"Having more young folks elected is important to me. It's important for young people to see themselves represented and feel that they're understood by their elected officials."

Aleana holds bachelor and Master degrees from McGill University. Throughout her career, Young has worked for universities, for the provincial government, and in communications and public engagement.

In addition to her work with Regina Public, Young is currently a director with Family Service Regina. She served as the volunteer coordinator for the Saskatchewan Book Awards. With interest in economic development, Young was a director with Regina’s Downtown Business Improvement District.

She has been nominated as a YWCA Woman of Distinction (education), a CBC Top 40 under 40, and ‘favourite trustee’ in a readers’ poll by Prairie Dog Magazine.

In all of her ‘spare-time’ she is well-known local food writer (formerly of Verb Magazine, RROC), blogger, and TV guest. She has travelled extensively and once spent a summer digging up Roman ruins in Israel.

Newlyweds, Young and her husband are avid readers who enjoy travel, camping, fixing up their vintage RV, and culinary adventures.

"I love travel and have spent considerable time throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. I believe in the importance of language and bi-, tri-, and multilingualism. I have always been involved with my community through various campaigns and organizations, most recently as the head volunteer for the Saskatchewan Book Awards.

Within the field of education I’ve worked as a course instructor, a teaching assistant, and a library assistant. Over the past four years I've had the privilege of serving as the Trustee for sub-division two.

I believe in the virtues of community involvement and service. Education is an investment in our future and a wonderful privilege that we as Canadians are lucky enough to have."
